MISSION'S
NEW FOCUS:
THE ADOPT-A-PEOPLE MOVEMENT
The Old Mission Model: Focus on Missionaries
For generations, the local church's perceived responsibility to
world mission was often summed up in the person of the missionary.
As long as the missionary was sent, clothed and fed, his prayer
letters read and the requests mentioned, many churches felt that
they had done all that was possible in fulfilling the Great Commission
mandate.
The New Mission Model: Focus on Peoples
In a growing number of churches, a new mission model is taking
hold! This is a vibrant, strategic model that goes right to
the heart of the harvest: PEOPLES! This model, Adopt-A-People,
has emerged from the very heart of God for all peoples. In the
world's 234 geopolitical nations, there exist over 16,000 distinct,
ethnic cultures.
These are the people groups The Great
Commission is directed towards on earth.
"Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations
(ethnic or people groups), baptizing them in the name of
the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit" (Matthew 28:19
NAS).
These are the people groups The Great
Completion will gather together in heaven.
"After this I beheld, and lo, a great multitude,
which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds,
and people, and tongues, stood before the throne.
. ." (Revelation 7:9a KJV).
The Adopt-A-People Movement is helping to make
God's heavenly vision a practical, earthly reality!
